Character description: master Wong Fei Hung is one of the most famous Chinese folk superheroes. In Tsui Hark's work, Wong Fei Hung is portrayed as a young famous Kung Fu master as well as a Chinese doctor, who earns everyone's respect by his superb skills and his care for weak and poor people. Wong Fei Hung is highly educated and righteous. Listen to what he teaches the officials, other masters and his students. He represents the right and the goodness. He cares for everyone (I love the scene when Fei Hung receives Clubfoot - part III). Doctor Wong cures poor people for free. Master Wong helps the weak against the cruel. It is not necessary to mention that master Wong's Kung Fu is superb. Not many people can stand his No Shadow Kick. But Wong Fei Hung's best characteristics are his calmness and great philosophy. Actually, I think his calmness and patience help him win in all the battle. However, there are two weak points about Wong Fei Hung. First, he is a bit stubbornly resentful about the new technologies. But gradually, with the help of Siu Qun and Ki Ying, Fei Hung learns to accept it. Second, master Wong is a bit traditional (TV series- The Eight Assassins). Why does he keep calling his sweetheart Aunt Thirteen? Jet Li as Wong Fei Hung (part I,II,III,America): It is obvious that Jet Li is my favorite Wong Fei Hung. He is the best actor for the role. Jet Li's Wong Fei Hung is intelligent, calm, respectable and philosophical. Jet's Martial Arts talent is excellent (5 times National Wushu Champion in China). But Jet's Fei Hung is not a hard dry tree like normal Kung Fu master. Besides the respectable look and characteristics, Jet' Fei Hung is a warm hearted man. He is humorous occasionally. He is also very innocent of the technology and the outside world. Jet's Fei Hung is more lively and lovely than just a legend. Chiu Man Cheuk as Wong Fei Hung (the rest): Chiu Man Cheuk did very well as Wong Fei Hung. I love his style too. I think that he did better in the TV series than in the movies. In the movies, Chiu's master Wong concentrates on fighting. He does not show his doctor and philosophical side. However, in the TV series, Chiu Man Cheuk can show how great Wong Fei Hung is as a Kung Fu master, a doctor and a philosopher. Chiu Man Cheuk looks more calm and mature in the TV series. I personally like Wong Fei Hung in the Eight Assassins since he is so lively. Has anyone seen master Wong cry? Then you must see the Eight Assassins. I think Chiu Man Cheuk's talent is very excellent, too. |
